Building on Volume I, it becomes particularly possible here to bridge the gap between fiction—where everything begins—and reality. If the cyborg with bionic ears is an identity in the 21st century—alongside so many other subtypes of cyborgs—its emergence lies in the cradle of science fiction. As a literary figure that is a fictional linguistic creation, and with the advent of photography, which, as it gains movement, migrates to the big screen, the cyborg is characterized as an instance presented by society. Among other things, it is a model of the body that promises durability in its execution, contrasting with the flesh that until then had been a support deemed unworthy. The 21st century, as depicted in this book, embodies the unbridled pursuit of immortality, where anything is possible. Therefore, this volume discusses technology and the body, capital and cultural goods, as well as morality and power games. This book demonstrates that the dichotomy of nature and artificiality has already been projected in cinematic productions. In this way, fiction becomes the myth of our time.
