Well-known IT strategies such as cluster systems, virtualization, SOA and web services, which follow the service-oriented approach, together form the new strategy called cloud computing. This new strategy opens up new opportunities and advantages for every company, regardless of size and industry, to adapt more flexibly and dynamically to global competition, to align itself more value-creatingly, to maintain its market position or to consolidate itself in the global market. Despite many advantages, the positive characteristics can quickly turn into counter-productivity as soon as the connection to the Internet is interrupted. Also, business-critical applications and the handover of internal company data are very risky, especially for medium-sized companies.
