Climate Change and Livelihoods

"Climate Change and Livelihoods" is a comprehensive guide that examines the impacts of climate change on the livelihoods of people in the mid-hills region of Nepal. Research shows that over the past thirty years, there has been an increase in temperatures of 0.02 degrees Celsius and an increase in rainfall of 0.28 mm per year. The majority of respondents have noticed changes in the climate that have negatively affected the functioning of ecosystems and biological systems. The study documents that climate change has significantly impacted people's livelihoods, particularly concerning natural, human, physical, and financial resources. The findings indicate that cereal production has declined due to ongoing drought, irregular monsoon rains, and new pests. Additionally, the incidence of vector-borne as well as water- and foodborne diseases has increased in recent years. However, the local population has begun to utilize their indigenous knowledge and resources to mitigate the negative effects of climate change.
