CINELE: La lengua de las mariposas

Multimedia support has become an indispensable part of language teaching. Teachers now mainly use original-language films to interest their students in (A-level-relevant) topics, to provide them with knowledge about culture and regional studies, and to improve listening comprehension at the same time. However, since there is still a lack of accompanying material and the adequate preparation of the film for the classroom is time-consuming, our new series "CinELE" fills a gap. The material on DIN A4 offers a practical handout for teaching the popular film "La lengua de las mariposas", which was awarded a Goya, in the upper school. Copy templates with questions on the content and analysis of individual scenes enable complete coverage with little preparation on the part of the teacher. A tabular lesson plan provides a quick overview and simple instructions. The use of the material is ideal for an examination of the failure of the Second Spanish Republic and the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. About the film: Young Moncho starts school and immediately takes a liking to his teacher, who is a convinced Republican and prefers modern educational methods to brutal disciplinary measures. Together with him he explores the world and soon develops a special enthusiasm for nature, about which his teacher teaches him a lot during their excursions. Their time together comes to an abrupt end, however, when the already unstable republic begins to totter and the erupting resistance of the military finally foreshadows its end.
