Senses

Sensory perceptions are of central importance to all living beings. They convey information about their environment and always form a basis for the relationships between living beings. Senses can be sharpened and they can also atrophy, and both can be influenced by personal effort as well as situational and cultural conditions. Generally, the question of the type, expression, number, functioning, and significance of the senses is answered differently for each living being and depends on the cultural and historical context, as well as the perspectives and approaches of the scientific discipline that addresses the question.
