Product details
Since the mid-1980s, "risk" has been a buzzword in the social sciences. Focusing on economic, social, and environmental historical themes and questions, the issue's focus on "risk" aims to explore the specifically historical dimension of risk and risk discourses. The selected examples address practices of quantifying risk in the insurance industry since the early modern period, the management and perception, as well as the legal and political framing of natural and environmental disasters in Switzerland in the context of societal and economic developments, and also scientific forecasts about the risks of modern economic and life forms.
