Informed obstinacy

On November 27, 1917, nine educated gentlemen of good society founded the Literary Association of Winterthur with the aim of nurturing literary history in the cultural life of the city and supporting narrative poetry as well as poetry itself. Since then, the "Literary" has evolved with the times: it is no longer solely in male hands, and through its author readings, it has demonstrated a keen sense for trends in the German-speaking literary scene for decades. In the book celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Literary Association of Winterthur, the Germanist and historian Ute Kröger recounts this history with a particular focus on the influential figures. Memories of remarkable guests and events of the "Literary," along with a portrait of the current association and a look at the Winterthur literary scene, complete the narrative.
