Chronicle of a Longing - THE OTHER HOME

In the middle of the 19th century in a poor village in Hunsrück. The young Jakob Simon dreams of Indians in Brazil, of sun, jungle and foreign languages. In his film Die andere Heimat - Chronik einer Sehnsucht (The Other Homeland - Chronicle of a Longing), Edgar Reitz brings to life the lives of the Simon family's ancestors, whose story in the 20th century is known from the Heimat trilogy. The Heimat trilogy - the first part thrilled people almost 30 years ago - was seen by 100 million viewers worldwide. The new, almost four-hour film also captivates with its detailed observation, its poetry and the truthfulness of its feelings. The film book on The Other Homeland contains a detailed retelling and explanation of the film from the director's point of view. A second part describes the creation of the Schabbach universe, the work of the film team and the tasks they had to solve. Another chapter deals with the development of the material and the work on the script. An extensive appendix provides information about the large number of contributors - crew, artists, main and supporting actors.
