Especially in children and adolescents who have become severely addicted at an early age, there is a strong connection between addiction, trauma and attachment disorder as a frequent comorbidity. In adulthood, those affected have often become hopeless long-term users as severely and chronically addicted. The attachment behaviour of adolescents is complicated and makes the already difficult therapy a great challenge. The clarification of this relationship is a neurobiological innovation that is currently taking place and has many effects on the understanding of addiction. This results in the possibility for addiction therapy to benefit from the findings of trauma and attachment theory.

Adolescents= attachment behaviour is complex, and the treatment & which is already difficult & is therefore extremely challenging. Ways of clarifying this situation represent an innovative development in neurobiology that is currently taking place and is having a major impact on the understanding of addiction. Addiction therapy may be able to benefit from these new findings in trauma theory and attachment theory.
