Campus Dreispitz

Herzog & de Meuron formulated their vision for Dreispitz more than ten years ago: a 50-hectare industrial area in Basel-Münchenstein is currently being developed into a new urban neighborhood. The Christoph Merian Foundation, as the property owner, has initiated a transformation from an industrial area to a mixed-use urban district. Culture is the necessary driving force for this change: a new neighborhood is emerging around Freilagerplatz, energized by students from the University of Art and Design and enriched by regional and international artists and cultural creators. Individual warehouses and commercial spaces are being repurposed, and visionary new buildings are under construction. The book presents the pioneering buildings and features current users of the structures. The vision for the Freilager neighborhood is taking shape and illustrates what truly matters in the process of repurposing.
