Christianity and Islam

The relationship between Christianity and Islam has long been a public issue in Europe. The conflict between the two religions is controversial. Theological and extratheological factors determine the debate. On the one hand, the emergence of religiously motivated violence has changed the climate between the two religious communities; on the other hand, the Charta Oecumenica calls on the Christian churches in Europe to cultivate relations with Islam. Volume 8 of the writings of the Ecumenical Institute Lucerne presents the various voices of this debate: religious studies, theology, sociology, pedagogy, politics and cultural studies. The book offers a current assessment of the necessary steps on the way to dialogue between the two religions. With contributions by Farideh Akashe-Böhme, Samuel-Martin Behloul, Nevfel A.
