Cholonek oder Der liebe Gott aus Lehm

It is a time of great German history that also affects the village of Poremba on the Polish border between 1935 and 1945. During this period, Cholonek is born and grows up - in years of upheaval, where faith in the new leader and hope for quick happiness, in the shadow of the political climate, destroy old, established bonds. But these are also times when there are still grand weddings with pig slaughters, drinking bouts in Kapitza's pub, horse traders, and smugglers. "Cholonek" tells of a lost world - lovingly and warmly, yet with an unmistakable sense of vanity and absurdity. Janosch narrates without idealizing - and yet everything is beautifully heartbreaking.
