The wealth of Saxony was - as a common saying goes - created in Chemnitz, increased through trade in Leipzig, and squandered in Dresden. In Chemnitz, machines thudded and purred, forcing thousands under their yoke. Yet, it was precisely for this reason that many inventors, entrepreneurs, artists, actors, graphic designers, and top athletes emerged here, making Chemnitz a city of intellect. Today, Chemnitz is not only a modern industrial location but also a place of art and culture of international significance, having finally received the well-deserved accolade of European Capital of Culture in 2025.
