Product details
Here, the chemistry is right! The Mortimer has been captivating students for decades. It is the best-selling textbook of its kind and is already entering its 13th edition. Why are learners so enthusiastic? The Mortimer makes chemistry understandable and particularly vivid. For chemistry students, it provides a solid foundation, while students in natural and engineering sciences can confidently navigate all their exams. Oral colloquia during practicals are covered just as thoroughly as module final exams. The experiments of each practical day can also be well-prepared in terms of content. The Mortimer has been offering all this for over 40 years:
- Easily understandable language
- Consistently colorful illustrations
- Clear calculation examples
- Practice problems with solutions directly in the book (saving the need for an extra workbook!)
- Detailed solution paths for practice problems available online
- Fold-out periodic table for a clear overview
- Mini periodic table as a study card
- Extensive glossary with definitions of the most important chemistry terms
- Summaries for each chapter
The Mortimer covers the content of the module "General and Inorganic Chemistry" for minor subject students and conveys the basic knowledge of organic chemistry (hydrocarbons; functional groups). Additionally, it provides insights into some special areas of organic chemistry (stereochemistry, polymer chemistry, supramolecular chemistry). Biochemistry is briefly introduced (including carbohydrates, fats, hormones, vitamins, proteins, nucleic acids, enzymes), as well as nuclear chemistry. There is also a chapter on handling hazardous substances and German (and Swiss) hazardous materials law. An extensive appendix provides information on standard potentials, equilibrium constants, thermodynamic data, bond energies, etc. The Mortimer promise: It contains all the essential knowledge for chemistry students and everything relevant for chemistry minors.
