Charles Richard Eggleston (November 1945 - May 6, 1968) was a photographer for United Press International who lost his life during the Vietnam War while covering the ongoing conflict. Eggleston, a graduate of Indian River Central High School in Philadelphia, New York, moved to Gouverneur after graduating from Auburn Community College and joined the U.S. Navy, where he became a journalist. During his service in Vietnam, he was awarded two Bronze Stars, two Navy Commendation Medals, and the South Vietnamese Honor Medal.
