An ode to representational painting. Almut Heise (born 1944 in Celle, lives and works in Hamburg) creates her paintings and paper works with great dedication and meticulousness. In the 1960s, Heise began to focus on painting, studying in Mainz, Hamburg, and London. Not subject to any trends, her works skillfully evade temporal classification. The virtuously painted interiors, with numerous references to the furnishings of post-war Germany, are an ode to representational painting, without being narrative or evaluative. Heise's portraits, which began to take center stage in the mid-1970s and continue to dominate her work today, should be viewed in the same light. The catalog raisonné presents for the first time the entire oeuvre of Almut Heise, showcasing the artist's unmistakable, detail-oriented visual language without gaps. The two volumes encompass paintings, drawings, and prints from 1966 to the present. Created in close collaboration with the artist over nearly ten years, the catalog also features previously unpublished images. With texts by Brigitte Kölle, Petra Lange-Berndt, Ina Jessen, Kito Nedo, Thomas Scheibitz, and a foreword by Michael Hering and Marie-Catherine Vogt.
