Product details

In 1845, the Bernese lithographer Carl Durheim (1810–1890) began daguerreotyping, a technique he had learned about in Paris in 1839. Innovative and enterprising, he achieved great success from the very beginning: he portrayed all of Bern, attracted significant attention with landscape and city photographs, and received international awards. Additionally, he was the first photographer to create wanted photographs of homeless individuals on official commission. Durheim was a photographic pioneer who immediately recognized the potential of the new medium and knew how to market it – capturing images of a reality full of mysteries and enigmas.
