Since their discovery, carbon nanotubes have generated a great deal of interest in the international research community. This is due to their extraordinary physical properties, such as high mechanical strength, high electrical conductivity or high thermal conductivity. However, in order to use CNTs in macroscopic products, CNTs have to be singly and homogeneously dispersed in solvents and ultimately in polymers. Nowadays, this dispersion represents one of the most difficult process steps in the processing of carbon nanotubes. The aim of this work was to systematically investigate this dispersion behavior of carbon nanotubes and to evaluate the influencing variables for the preparation of optimized both aqueous and solvent-based dispersions.
