Product details
As a co-founder of Subaltern Studies, Indian historian Dipesh Chakrabarty is a pioneer of postcolonial historiography. His influential writings cover a wide range of topics, from the history of the working class to the emergence of a middle class in colonial India, as well as the history of Indigenous peoples in Australia and global risks such as climate catastrophe. Through his work, Chakrabarty has also significantly contributed to a critique of Eurocentrism in the humanities and social sciences, while also highlighting the challenges of overcoming it. His studies illustrate the limitations of applying central categories of European modernity, such as Enlightenment and secularization, to the analysis of non-Western societies. His work has been translated into several languages.
