Cabaret Bizarre

Since 2013, photographer Kostas Maros has been documenting the artists and performers of Cabaret Bizarre during their performances across Europe. The award-winning photographs were taken both during the shows and in the backstage area. They intimately and candidly capture moments of tension before the performances and the euphoric exhaustion that follows the show. Cabaret Bizarre is inspired by the dark cabarets and variety theaters of Berlin in the 1920s and early 1930s, as well as the surreal aesthetics of Federico Fellini and Luis Buñuel. It is a freak show, a carnival of pleasures, a masquerade ball of extremes for flamboyant and unconventional individuals. This opulent photo book celebrates this alternate world of a raucous night, where beauty and ugliness, elegance and trash go hand in hand.
