About the Work
The era of Business Ecosystems is replacing the traditional view of business models. By 2030, more than 30% of global revenues will be generated within Business Ecosystems. The new Business Ecosystems in Europe still predominantly have a national character. Asia and North America currently have the potential, with a strong affinity for digital business models, to take a leading role in this area. Various studies indicate that alongside the already known super-platforms, new ecosystems are forming that significantly contribute to this trend. It is expected that globally, 15-20 dominant Business Ecosystems will set the pace. Additionally, it is becoming apparent that numerous national and local ecosystems are forming to provide customers with a unique value proposition in niche markets or specific regions.
For companies, the question arises in the design and realization of whether to initiate a suitable ecosystem themselves or to become part of an existing ecosystem. In both cases, one is part of the value creation process to realize a jointly shared value proposition with other actors in the ecosystem. A fundamental prerequisite for participation in ecosystems is a high level of trust in the other actors in the system, as well as shared values, visions, and ambitions among the participating companies. Furthermore, the initiation of an ecosystem requires financial resources, from the initial idea onward.
