Regardless of their orientation and size, companies, authorities, and organizations are increasingly under pressure to perform efficiently and continuously. Factors such as global competition and digitalization intensify the growing pressure to deliver results. On the other hand, risks are rising: failures due to cyberattacks or extreme natural events can quickly reach existential proportions. Resources to cushion such failures are hardly available anymore. Planning and establishing a tailored emergency management system for the company is, however, no easy task. Often, there is a lack of expertise and the necessary tools. Business Continuity Management has been firmly anchored in IT baseline protection for years. The BSI standard 100-4 (2009) for emergency management already provided established support. The now available BSI standard 200-4 takes into account current developments in the areas of BCM, emergency management, and IT crisis management, as well as the updating of BSI standards for information security. It thus offers indispensable assistance for successful preparation for emergencies in the corporate environment.
