Product details
Burnout refers to a risk state that can lead to psychological and somatic follow-up illnesses when prolonged stress becomes chronic. The burnout syndrome is characterized by pronounced exhaustion coupled with impaired recovery ability, accompanied by stress symptoms. Reduced resilience, vegetative symptoms, and cognitive disturbances may also occur. So far, there are only a few comprehensive studies on the treatment of burnout, although treatment recommendations are urgently needed given its prevalence.
Barbara Hochstrasser has developed, implemented, and researched the first integrated treatment program for patients with burnout and exhaustion depression in Switzerland. Based on the current state of research, clinical practice, and her years of experience, she explains the fundamentals of burnout syndrome, addressing various models and risk factors, as well as the complex symptomatology and aspects of diagnosis. From this foundation, Barbara Hochstrasser presents and evaluates possible forms of therapy and their effectiveness.
The author considers not only psychotherapeutic interventions but also body- and experience-oriented therapies, mindfulness exercises, yoga, meditation, Qigong, Shiatsu, sports, biofeedback, complementary medical applications, and vocational rehabilitation and reintegration programs. This book serves as a comprehensive reference work for guidance in the treatment of burnout.
