Günther Wohlrabe, the owner of the largest funeral company in the region, dies painfully after a Dinner in the Dark event. What initially appears to be a natural death soon reveals itself to be a cleverly executed murder: Wohlrabe was killed with the highly toxic seeds of the castor bean plant. Shortly thereafter, Chief Inspector Paul Lenz from the Kassel Criminal Police faces a second corpse: the construction entrepreneur Werner Kronberger was found dead in his car - with the engine running and a hose in the exhaust pipe directing the fumes into the vehicle's interior. The autopsy reveals that he was incapacitated with a stun gun before his death. Additionally, traces of castor bean seeds are also found in his body. Lenz discovers that there is another connection between the deceased: both were involved in the construction of Germany's largest crematorium in the nearby Hofgeismar, a highly controversial project...
