Who decides on the allocation, type and extent of office property developments, and how can cities, private district and area developers influence the location decisions of project developers and investors? From the perspective of New Institutional Economics, Christoph Meyer zum Alten Borgloh examines the transactions of office project developments with regard to their costs, risks and general conditions as well as their influence on investment decisions. Building on this, the author analyses how transaction costs can be reduced and investment incentives generated with the help of "institutional design". From the results, neighbourhood developers and municipalities can derive approaches on how to make development areas more attractive for investors and project developers and how urban planning instruments can be used more efficiently. Project developers and investors will be presented.
