Forest honey is an exceptionally popular type of honey, yet few people know that forest honey is not made from the nectar of trees, but rather from aphids that live on coniferous trees, primarily spruce and fir. These aphids pierce the trees and feed on the sap that circulates in the bark. They then excrete a substance known as honeydew through special glands, which bees collect, bring back to the hive, and store in the honeycomb. Traveling teacher Peter Buchner has specialized in this topic and shares his knowledge in this unique book with all beekeepers.
