Buch der Reformation

The book, featuring nearly 200 sources from the prehistory and early period of the Reformation, represents a complete reworking of the 1917 publication 'The Book of the Reformation' edited by Karl Kaulfuss-Diesch, as well as other new editions. The previous selection of sources has undergone critical revision, been supplemented, and partially expanded. All texts are accompanied by a brief introductory text and further literature references. This creates a kaleidoscope of various approaches to the ecclesiastical and political reform demands of the late Middle Ages and their concentrated culmination in the programmatic statements of the German-speaking, especially Lutheran, Reformation. At the same time, the volume provides a preliminary overview of the lasting impact of the testimonies of reformative initiatives and the opposition they provoked by including older source editions.
