Will Way is the first person called when there is a police officer-involved shooting in Brooklyn Supreme. As the union representative of the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association, he has forty-eight hours to talk to the officers involved before anyone else does, be it the officers' supervisors, Internal Affairs or the DA's office. His job is to look after the welfare of the police officers first and foremost. When Georgina Reed shoots a man immediately after robbing a bodega, Way thinks this is a simple case. But as he sits in the basement of the precinct and hears Georgina's story, he becomes more and more uneasy, because Georgina is clearly lying about what happened a few hours ago. She claims that the man she shot had a gun in his hand. Others swear that he was only carrying a bunch of azaleas. A gun is found under the body. The case becomes a found food for the media. When Way's murky connection to a prominent Brooklyn Supreme Court justice is exposed, he becomes the next target for the mob looking for someone to blame for racial injustice in America.
