In 1917, his collected poems were published by the Verlag der Aktion under the title "Fleisch." Gottfried Benn established himself as a specialist in dermatology and venereal diseases in Berlin and maintained his practice until 1935. In 1922, his collected writings were published by Erich Reiss Verlag in Berlin. In 1932, Benn became a member of the Prussian Academy of Arts, Department of Poetry. Selected Poems was published, Benn's last publication during the Nazi era, followed by severe attacks against him in "Das Schwarze Korps" and "Völkischer Beobachter." From 1937 to 1945, Benn was transferred to Berlin and worked as an expert in military welfare, dealing with care and pension issues. He was expelled from the Reich Chamber of Literature and received a writing ban. In 1943, he served as a senior physician in Landsberg an der Warthe. In 1945, he returned to Berlin. From 1946 to 1948, he opened a practice but faced difficulties in publishing. In 1951, he was awarded the Büchner Prize in Darmstadt by the Academy for Language and Poetry. In 1953, Benn gave up his medical practice. Gottfried Benn died in Berlin on July 7, 1956.
