Breaking the Rules

Product details
Against the backdrop of a socio-political awakening in the 1980s, a new expressiveness also emerged in Swiss graphic design, influenced by punk aesthetics and early experiments with the Macintosh. Alternative cultural and political initiatives consciously adopted a new visual appearance to distinguish themselves from established institutions. In constructive tension with the stylistic rigor of Swiss Style, young designers discovered innovative visual expressions that continue to enrich graphic design to this day. The publication showcases a variety of design attitudes through posters from 1980 to 1995, which consciously embrace rule-breaking. Featured are works by Peter Bäder, Polly Bertram, Daniel Volkart, Richard Feurer, Roli Fischbacher, Peter Frey, Ralph Schraivogel, Mihaly Varga, and others.
