Simonhof

A mountain farm in the Alps. High up, remote, largely self-sufficient, seemingly barely connected to the larger history, yet full of stories that reflect the significant changes in the lives of four generations. In times of bitter poverty, a pasture is claimed by the first Simon farmer at the card table and skillfully and persistently developed into a farm. Later, on the brink of World War II, the Simonhof expands, fulfilling mandatory quotas with the help of forced laborers. In the 1970s, technological progress and tourism, which turns farming villages elsewhere into fashionable meeting places for the upper class, bring a surge of prosperity. Progress can be slowed down by some stubborn individuals, but not stopped, and thus the last of the Simon farmers faces the challenges of a tourism entrepreneur.
