The new colleague of a sex worker is made of silicone. A butcher's assistant is handling state-of-the-art slaughtering machines in the meat factory. And the trainees at an airport security are meant to internalize that only compliant behavior makes them human. Magdalena Schrefel's characters face the everyday absurdities of late capitalism - automation, control, precarity - and find surprising ways to cope with the unacceptable. They also question the conditions under which literature is created: How does it exploit humanity? And is literature work, indeed, even systemically relevant?.
