Bothien:Bonn im 20. Jahrhundert

A journey through Bonn's 20th-century history, told through 100 objects and photos selected by Horst-Pierre Bothien from the Bonn City Museum. The themes reflect politics, economic and everyday history, including: the old Bonn bridge, the municipal incorporations of 1904, Bonn residents in World War I, the occupation period, separatists, persecutions during the Nazi regime, bombing warfare, reconstruction, currency reform, Bonn as the federal capital, state visits, subway construction, the Federal Garden Show, the 2000 anniversary celebration, and the decision to relocate. The stories are narrated through photos and objects, which include not only posters and diaries but also rare and sometimes quirky items, such as a hand ballot box from the Bundestag, a piece of the Hofgarten lawn, or one of the notorious railway barriers. Horst-Pierre Bothien: "In my long-term research and presentations about Bonn in the 20th century, I repeatedly came across particularly interesting and striking objects and photos that can vividly tell the story of Bonn. The idea was born to capture the history of Bonn in the 20th century through 100 such objects and photos in a pointed but also selective manner." The book will be published in the Forum History series of the Bonn City Museum.
