Native wild plants form the foundation of life for our wildlife, providing them with food, shelter, and habitat. They offer insects pollen and nectar, provide birds with safe nesting sites, and produce fruits in the autumn for winter nourishment. Butterfly caterpillars are picky and often rely on very specific host plants. By using native wild plants in gardens and on balconies, biodiversity can be promoted. Native wild plants are also often better adapted to climate change than exotic species. The new Botanica Garden and Plant Guide features 25 botanical gardens in Switzerland as well as 25 different plant species suitable for gardens or balconies.
