Product details

The Isabella and the small Lloyd are among the most famous cars of the 1950s and 1960s. The Bremen-based automobile manufacturer Borgward produced not only elegant sedans and economical compact cars but also racing cars. Since 1950, the Bremen plant has been involved in international motorsport. In August 1950, record runs on the Montlhéry track near Paris attracted attention. The drive covered over 5000 miles and lasted more than 48 hours. The streamlined Borgward set 12 track and time records during this event, achieving a top speed of 196 km/h. In 1952, the Bremen team achieved their first victories against international competition. At that time, the engine output was 80 hp. By 1959, Borgward's engine designer Karl-Ludwig Brandt increased it to nearly 160 hp, which was sufficient for a speed of 270 km/h. In 1953, Borgward's factory driver Hans Hugo Hartmann raced in the toughest race in the world.
