Bootsmann auf der Scholle

Uwe wants to rescue the dog boatswain, who is drifting away on an ice floe, with a barge. But Uwe is actually much too young for such a task. It is winter. Uwe, Katrinchen and Jochen have taken Bootsmann, the dog of the tugboat captain Bräsing, to play. It is very cold. Slabs of ice have formed on the shore. Jochen and Bootsmann romp around on one of them until it breaks off. Jochen is able to jump to safety, but when Boatswain wants to do the same, the floe has already drifted too far. Jochen steals away. Katrinchen is told to go for help, but does not return. Uwe, left to his own devices, finds a barge and rows after the boatman who is drifting away.
