An abandoned mountain hotel in the snow-covered Arctic Circle: risky property speculation. The mountain village of Åre in the far north of Sweden is teeming with ski holidaymakers when Stockholm property developer Charlotte Wretlind is found brutally stabbed to death in her hotel room - the bed sticky with blood. Panic spreads through the neighbourhood and Hanna Ahlander and her colleague Daniel Lindskog immediately take on the case. The clues lead to an abandoned high mountain hotel that has long since lost its former splendour: Charlotte had known the place since she was a child and wanted to have the building demolished to replace it with a spectacular luxury hotel. The local residents met her with fierce resistance. But Hanna realises that nothing is as it seems in this case. And then a second murder takes place.
