Concerns: Schaad does not know what he understands by guilt, and he is not the only one who feels this way today, I believe. Schaad has a latent sense of guilt. In court, he is accused of a crime he did not commit. He knows he didn't do it, but he can't say: "I'm innocent." For me, this somewhat gruesome book is centrally about the question of guilt and innocence in a case where guilt cannot be proven by the deed. I have chosen the criminal case to be as average as possible so that it does not detract from the interest, because it was not this criminal case that interested me, but the technique of finding the truth, the court as an example.

Author text: Max Frisch was born on 15 May 1911 in Zurich and died on 4 April 1991 as a result of cancer in his apartment in Zurich. In 1930, he began to study German at the University of Zurich but had to break off his studies in 1933 after the death of his father for financial reasons. He worked as a correspondent for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung. His first book publication, "Jürg Reinhart: A Summery Schicksalsfahrt," was published in 1934 by the Deutsche Verlags-Anstalt Stuttgart. In 1950, "Das Tagebuch 1946-1949" was published as Frisch's first work by the newly founded Suhrkamp Verlag. Numerous other publications followed.

Book excerpt: "Do you know this tie, Mr. Schaad?"
"I've been shown it before."
"This is the tie that was used in the strangulation. As you know, the victim had probably already suffocated, but the perpetrator obviously did not believe that the sanitary napkin in the mouth was enough, so he used this tie as well."
"I'm not the culprit."
"You understand my question?"
"Yeah."
"Is this your tie or not?"
"Could be..."
"Yes or no?"
"I felt at home in her apartment; I already said that. Maybe I took off my tie once because it was a hot day. It is conceivable. I was only ever in her apartment during the day. I already said that. And then maybe I forgot it, my tie; that's possible.".
