Author: Michael McDowell
Michael McDowell was born in 1950 in Alabama, USA. In 1979, he published "The Amulet," the first of more than 30 novels. Although he also wrote crime novels and comedies, some of his most significant works include the horror novels "Cold Moon Over Babylon" (1980), "The Elementals" (1981), and the "Blackwater" saga (1983), which was initially released in six individual volumes—a method later adopted by Stephen King for "The Green Mile." Starting in 1985, Michael McDowell also wrote for television, contributing episodes to "Tales from the Crypt" and "Alfred Hitchcock Presents." He also penned the screenplays for Tim Burton's films "Beetlejuice" and "The Nightmare Before Christmas." Michael McDowell was diagnosed with AIDS in 1994 and passed away in 1999. Tabitha King, the wife of Stephen King, completed the unfinished novel "Candles Burning," which was published in 2006. Michael McDowell was a master of Southern Gothic horror, highly praised by Stephen King as "a writer for eternity." King's assessment has proven true, as in recent years, Michael McDowell's work has been rediscovered not only in the English-speaking world but also in Europe, where his novels are now being published in various translations with great success.
