Mirjam Pressler, born in 1940 in Darmstadt, attended the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Frankfurt and now lives as a freelance author and translator in Landshut. She has published numerous children's and young adult books with Beltz & Gelberg, including the novels "Bitterschokolade," "Novemberkatzen," "Wenn das Glück kommt, muss man ihm einen Stuhl hinstellen" (German Youth Literature Prize), "Malka Mai" (German Book Prize), "Die Zeit der schlafenden Hunde," "Wundertütentage," "Golem stiller Bruder," and most recently "Nathan und seine Kinder." With "Ich sehne mich so. Die Lebensgeschichte der Anna Frank," she wrote an impressive biography of Anne Frank, whose diary she has translated anew. Her books have received many awards, and for her contributions to the German language, she was honored with the Carl-Zuckmayer-Medaille in 2001; for her overall work as an author and translator, she received the German Book Prize; and for her overall work as a translator, she was awarded the Special Prize of the German Youth Literature Prize.
