About one third of Germans suffer from sleep disorders. Gudrun Klein and Michael Bohne, pioneers of process- and embodiment-focused psychology, present a method in "Please Sleep!" that is new to many and facilitates falling asleep and staying asleep in cases of acute and chronic sleep disturbances. Typically, people with sleep disorders are advised to think about something else. However, the authors of "Please Sleep!" recommend focusing on the sleep problem while gently tapping on various parts of one's own body. This way, those seeking sleep can mentally dwell on their issue while doing something tactile. This slight distraction is enough to find relaxation and sleep. Neurobiological and neurohumoral aspects, such as the increase of oxytocin levels through tactile stimuli, are proposed as working hypotheses.
