Birgitta von Schweden

The "Revelations" ("Revelaciones") of the Swedish princess and mother of eight Birgitta Birgersdotter (1303-1373) had a profound influence on the world of faith in the Middle Ages. After moving to Rome, she became a sought-after spiritual counsellor whose calls to repentance and conversion were widely heard. Together with her daughter Katherina of Vadstena, who was also canonised, she founded the order of the Birgittines, which follows the principle of double monasteries (male and female communities side by side). In 1999, Pope John Paul II made her a patron saint of Europe. This new translation of the "Revelations" by Sr Apollonia Buchinger OSsS contains even smaller works of the Swedish saint, among others the Rule of the Birgittes ("Rule of St. Saviour").
