The articles in this book are based on the 24 radio programmes of the hr-iNFO radio college "Biology and Ethics", which were produced and broadcast by Hessischer Rundfunk in 2017/2018. The central questions of the radio programme "Biology and Ethics", and therefore also for this book, are: How should and do we want to deal with the new possibilities of biology, how far are we allowed to intervene in evolution, in ecosystems, in our basic biological make-up and in that of our children and grandchildren? Where do we get our standards from and how do we negotiate them? Plants made to measure, animals made to measure - why not humans made to measure? New genetic scissors make it possible to intervene in our natural world ever more quickly, easily, specifically and comprehensively. What possibilities are opening up? The 24 articles in this volume have been written by recognised specialist journalists who define the respective topic area and formulate the pros and cons by letting recognised experts from different disciplines have their say.
