Energy for mobility has so far come from countries that are subject to political fluctuations, stocks are running low. Prices are rising. The environment suffers. We cannot continue with "business as usual". Electric cars, hybrid drives, Stirling engines or fuel cells can only cover part of our mobile energy needs. This leaves enough room for a solution that tackles the problem holistically, employs German engineering and uses pioneering spirit in renewable energy plants. A solution that takes an unbiased view of the opportunities offered by disaster-free nuclear technology and gives preference to subsidiary supply over monopolistic structures. That's why I was fascinated by the idea and went in search of whether it would stand up to critical scrutiny - the feasibility, so to speak. Many helped. Some were still around when the spherical bed furnace was developed 40 years ago.
