Biographizität

Peter Alheit develops a concept of biographicality that includes a new idea of how we might think about our existence in late modernity: We are products of an overpowering, barely comprehensible social practice, yet we remain individual actors despite everything. The discovery of our unique individuality possesses remarkable resilience and resistance potential. The author makes this not only theoretically transparent through the fluctuating experiences of the subject in modernity but also through surprisingly concrete developments in German late modernity—especially after the challenging reunification of East and West Germany.
