The Completely Different Children's Catechism

How can we successfully accompany children in their faith development in a suitable and empathetic way? This work offers a completely new approach: picture card sets and free downloadable material make it possible to engage in discussions about faith and life topics through a Kamishibai storytelling theater, fostering encounters on equal footing and a shared search for answers to meaningful questions.

The second set in this initially four-part series focuses on the experiences children have when discovering nature and our own responsibility for creation. Through exploration, wonder, and gratitude, the human-made interventions in the environment are also addressed, using a construction site as an example. The cycle of life is illustrated through a fairy tale about an old tree, and themes of flight and displacement are also discussed. The prompts for explicit philosophizing and theologizing revolve around questions about how God sustains the world, where God can be found, and what role angels play. Biblical texts include storytelling prompts related to the creation narrative, Psalm 23, and New Testament miracle stories about calming the storm and the healing of blind Bartimaeus. For community life, there is a card for the harvest festival and one for celebrating the Eucharist.

In addition to the sensitively and inspiringly designed picture cards and background information on the respective topics, there is abundant material for implementation in nurseries, kindergartens, and primary schools. The second set is very well suited for children aged 3 and up.
