Biblical Hebrew

Without a certain mastery of vocabulary, translating becomes a torment. However, the Semitic language area, specifically biblical Hebrew, is not easily accessible from the Indo-European perspective, in this case, German. Students often complain about this. The script and grammatical structures differ significantly. Building bridges in this context is a key objective of this basic vocabulary of approximately 900 words - not including names and places. Three types of bridges are offered: Etymology. Direct connections, such as 'ræs' and the Arabic 'ard' for earth, are indeed rare. However, their number increases significantly when one includes Greek and Latin, as well as Yiddish and, dependent on that, the thieves' language Rotwelsch. It further increases when one considers originally two-radical roots that have been expanded at the beginning, end, or in the middle, and vice versa for three-radical roots.
