The spread and consequences of internet crime pose a significant challenge and thus a threat to Nigeria's national development. The misuse of these new technologies endangers economic and financial security and affects the lives of those involved. The study found that the nefarious activities committed in cyberspace are widespread in Nigeria, as confirmed by 86% of respondents, placing the country third in the global ranking. This book also shows that the majority (63%) believe that the threat undermines the country's image, thus representing a threat to national development. The study concludes that internet crime is a virus that has deeply infiltrated the country's socioeconomic development, distorting the sustainable livelihoods and national development of Nigerians. Therefore, the study recommends that the government should create more jobs to prevent the commission of this heinous crime. Additionally, strict penalties should be imposed to deter offenders from engaging in such crimes.
