Wood is a wonderful building material – but it must be properly protected to ensure durability and resilience. The substances used for this often pose health risks and must be applied by professionals in a correct manner. These and other aspects of wood protection are regulated by standards, primarily by DIN 68800 "Wood Protection," which includes four parts covering principles, preventive structural measures, protection with wood preservatives, and control and remediation measures in case of pest infestation. The series of standards has been thoroughly revised since the last edition of the DIN Handbook 132 and is now available in a complete and updated version, along with the corresponding Beuth commentary. The 8th edition of "Wood Protection" includes the following topics and documents: DIN 68800 Parts 1-4 in original text, commentary on the DIN 68800 series Parts 1-4, pre-treatment of biological tests, fungal tests, requirements for pest control wood preservatives, proof of wood preservatives, and sampling. In total, the specialized book contains 22 standards, 10 of which have been revised since the last edition. The book is aimed at specialized companies in wood protection, construction and planning firms, conservators, restorers, experts, and testing institutes.
