Journalist and editor Mathias Morgenthaler focuses on the life stories of his interviewees. However, this is not in the sense of a homestory, but rather more like a job story. Although "job" is not quite the right word; there should be a term that encompasses job, work, and calling all at once.

The fact that such a word does not exist is symptomatic, and that is why these interviews are so enlightening: they recount the constant struggle for earning a living (job), dedication (work), and fulfillment (calling). Mathias Morgenthaler does not simply portray people who have succeeded. The subjects come from all social strata, including upward and downward movers, career changers, and dropouts. Their biographies reveal cracks and contradictions. Thus, these interviews collectively provide a fascinating insight into a multifaceted world of work. Nothing is sugar-coated: work is a struggle for existence, no success is guaranteed, and failure is always a possibility. Yet, a subtle optimism runs through these conversations. Unexpectedly, a way out of a dead end emerges, a stroke of fate opens new perspectives, and people discover their creativity in times of crisis.
